For the Love of It: An Evening with the Karla Harris Quartet
Saturday, August 27, 7:30 PM

In a sparkling evening of straight-ahead jazz, Latin and blues, acclaimed vocalist Karla Harris performs with a luminous trio featuring musicians whose credits include jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Wycliff Gordon, Jennifer Holiday and Larry Carlson. Karla’s dynamic, nuanced delivery has captivated audiences at festivals and venues from Portland to Provence. A consummate storyteller in song, her performances bring a distinctive mix of contemporary and straight-ahead jazz with widespread appeal.

Karla has performed and recorded with world-renown jazz artists such as Dave Weckl, Tom Kennedy, Chuck Loeb, Randy Porter and more. Her recent CD, Certain Elements, charted on the prestigious Jazz Week chart, with several tracks in rotation on Sirius XM RealJazz as well as on jazz radio worldwide. Jazz Weekly writes that the album “glows with wonderment.” The album’s first single, a lush remake of the ‘60s hit “Cherish,” is a contemporary jazz station favorite and has been featured on the legendary Dave Koz’s syndicated program. Two of Karla’s original compositions on the album were recognized in 2020 by the International Songwriting Competition awards.

Karla’s 2015 album, “Karla Harris Sings the Dave and Iola Brubeck Songbook,” produced with the blessing of the Dave Brubeck estate and released on Summit Records, is the first-ever studio recording dedicated exclusively to vocal versions of 11 Dave Brubeck compositions with lyrics by his wife, Iola. Of the album, Jazz historian Thomas Cunniffe writes that Karla, “salutes and enhances our appreciation of great jazz masters. She makes these seldom-heard lyrics come alive,” and Jazziz says, “The Brubecks would have been pleased.”
