Formed in September of 2002, "Freebird set out to recreate the original studio and live recordings of Lynyrd Skynyrd. From the beginning, the band felt the need to deliver the highest quality of music as opposed to trying to look like the original band. After auditioning some of Long Island's most talented musicians, "FREEBIRD" was up and running. After playing many of Long Island's smaller clubs, the band began to develop a loyal following. As word began to spread about the band, larger venues took notice which gave them opportunities to perform for larger audiences. The band then began to sell out many of Long Island's largest music venues and clubs. Freebird has played at the "The Suffolk Theater" in Riverhead, "The Paramount" in Huntington, "The Jones Beach Bandshell" in Wantagh, "The Space" in Westbury as well as for many Town and County parks all over Long Island. All the members of "Freebird" have a tremendous respect for the music of Ronnie Van Zant and all the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Which is why we put in the additional hard work in order to authenticate the music as exactly as possible down to the smallest detail. Skynyrd was a truly great live band. All one has to do is listen to the "ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD" album. They were one good time Rockin' band with a slew of great songs that easily connected with the masses. "Freebird" is dedicated to playing the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd live at a high level in order to give the folks that come out to see them an experience they won't forget. The main goal of the band is to always put every ounce of energy into a show, to get the fans of Lynyrd Skynyrd to stand up, dance, hoot and holler, jump around and have a great time. That's why "Freebird" is playing Lynyrd Skynyrd's music and keeping the flame alive.
